Nature Photography in Your Own Backyard
Literally and figuratively.
Here’s one of the many things I love about nature photography: It doesn’t have to be complicated. There are beautiful things to photograph steps away from where you live in your own backyard, on your block, in the community garden down the road… you just have to look closely.
California has been experiencing beautiful super blooms, and you’ll probably be surprised to learn I haven’t made it out to see any of the majestic hills covered in orange California poppies and purple lupines. After all, I am obsessed with flowers! And, I’d be lying if I said I haven’t experienced a little bit of FOMO about it. Between work, moving, and other life events, I didn’t have it in me to make it happen. But! Here’s the thing. Super blooms were not the only thing to come out of all the rain this spring. Take a walk around my neighborhood and you’ll see beautiful flowers and gardens everywhere. A poppy in someone’s front yard is no less beautiful than a poppy in a super bloom. (And it’s probably easier to photograph. Too windy? Light not ideal? It’s easy to return and try again.)
Each photo in this blog post was taken no more than a 10 minute walk from my home at the time.
