Hi! I’m Emily.
I got my first camera when I was 16, right before a trip to Yellowstone.
I took so many photos of wildlife and flowers on that trip, and became obsessed with one particular image I took of a flower. It was a pasque flower, and one of the prettiest flowers I had ever seen. To this day, that photo reminds me of that trip. It is an entire experience, feeling, and moment in my life frozen into one beautiful image.
A whole new world opened up to me when I eventually got my first DSLR camera. I learned how to use my camera by taking it with me everywhere. I took sooo many photos, mainly of nature and particularly flowers. When I felt confident operating my camera I started taking photos of people and doing event photography for family and friends. I officially launched ecb creates in September of 2021 as a small, part-time photography business while teaching full time.
Here are some interesting things about me:
I love being creative! In addition to photography, I love to craft, hand-letter, and sing.
I grew up in Southern California, and my first job was at Knott’s Berry Farm.
I am a proud U.C. Berkeley alumni (Go Bears!) and have a B.A. in English and Music.
I moved to the Boston area to pursue a degree in Arts in Education from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and then stayed or 8 years before moving back to Southern California.
I am great with kids! I worked for several years in community and youth center therapeutic recreation programs, and taught middle school special education for 5 years.
Someday I’d like to see and photograph tigers in the wild.

My first ever digital camera was a Nikon point and shoot, and I have stuck with Nikon ever since. My current camera is a Nikon z6ii. My go to lens is the z series 24-70mm f2.8 lens for most occasions. I also love my z series 50mm f 1.8 lens because it creates beautiful background bokeh and I can open my aperture wide to f1.8. My z series 105mm f2.8 lens is what I use for my macro work. I also use this lens for portraits when I want beautiful, soft backgrouns.

I describe my editing style as bright, warm, and natural. I am personally drawn to images that are full of warmth (both in color and feeling) and true to color. My photography journey began with nature photography, and it always felt important to me to capture color accurately when documenting nature. I think true color is timeless.

I love that you’re asking this question! It’s so important to find a photographer that fits what you want, and sometimes this take a bit of research. We are a good fit if:
You have browsed the photos on my website and like my style. The work on my website is what you can expect from your session, so make sure that’s what you want. For example, if you’re looking for dark and moody photos, that’s great, but I don’t edit that way :)
You want to play and have fun in order to document your real selves. You want me to capture real moments, rather than perfect ones. We can get some traditional, posed photos where everyone is looking at the camera, but my goal is always to document your true, authentic selves and the way you naturally interact with your loved ones.
If you are looking for family photos, you are happy for your kids to be kids. You want me to document them having fun, playing with each other, having fun with you, and exploring their environment. You trust me to go with the flow and capture your kiddos however they show up to the session.

It means that I will guide your through your session giving you posing direction and prompts that aim to capture how you and your loved ones interact. I work to capture real moments of connection between your loved ones. Check out my blog for a post all about how I define lifestyle photography.

Absolutely! But please keep reading to understand what that really means. Very few photos happen truly spontaneously and candidly. In our session I will guide you through poses and prompts to elicit natural and authentic moments between you and your loved ones.

I edit all my photos to ensure lighting and color consistency. I also do very minor portrait enhancements to very gentle soften skin and brighten eyes. My general editing process does not include photo retouching. However, I can fix skin blemishes and remove distracting objects if requested. I DO NOT do any body modifications, for example making people skinnier or removing double chins.
I also do not fix imperfections in clothes, broken nails, or things of that nature. Please make sure you arrive to your session exactly how you want to be photographed.
